How it Works
Your friends and family are certainly going to ask how the HCG protocol and diet work. They will no doubt be amazed at how anyone can survive on 500 calories of protein and vegetables (with a piece of fruit or two per day).
A benefit to the use of HCG, is that it releases about 1,500 – 4000 calories a day into your system. You add that to the 500 calories you’re eating, and your body thinks it’s taking in 2,000 + calories a day. The result is you are not hungry, and your body doesn’t go into starvation mode. Dr. Simeon’s found that eating 500 (or less) calories a day is the optimum for weight loss. If you eat an extra 100-200 calories, you will not lose, and have a likelihood of gaining weight. Why? While your body is under the influence of HCG, it’s considered an “open system”. Which means even a tiny bit of extra starch or sugar can result in an immediate 2-3 lbs weight gain. Another benefit to completing the HCG protocol is that it may reset your metabolism to a “normal” level, allowing you to actually eat more food, without gaining weight.
Duration of Treatment
Patients who need to lose 15 pounds or less require 26 days of treatment with 25 daily injections. The extra three days are needed because all patients must continue a 500 calorie diet for three days after the last injection. This is very essential part of the treatment, because if they start eating normally, as long as there is even a trace of HCG in their body, they will put weight on at an alarming rate, at the end of their treatment.
When a patient has more than 15 pounds to lose, the treatment takes longer, but the maximum HCG given in a single course is 40 injections. The treatment is stopped when either 34 lbs have been lost, or 40 injections have been given.
Weight Loss Expectations
This will vary and will depend on your sex and individual metabolism. Men generally lose more than women. If you have a higher metabolism, you may lose more quickly than those who do not. If you are taking any medications ( i.e. that contain cornstarch or sugar) , you will lose half the amount of weight vs. if you were not taking any medication. Do not discontinue the use of any prescription medicine without the advice of your healthcare provider.
It is possible to lose 20-25lbs with a 26 -day protocol, but it is not uncommon for some people to only average a .5 to .75 lb/day loss. Many women say their average weight loss for a treatment round is between .5 to .75 lb/day, whereas men often state it is between .65-1 lb/day.
Keys to Successful HCG Weight Loss
In order for HCG to be an effective tool in weight management, you must strictly adhere to the following guidelines:
- You must have pharmaceutical grade HCG, which is only available by prescription from a licensed physician.
- You must administer and store HCG properly (always refrigerated).
- The daily dietary must be followed without exception, addition, or substitutions.
- The daily caloric intake cannot exceed 500 calories.
- Medications, vitamins, and / or supplements may reduce the protocol’s effectiveness, or result in a weight gain while you are on the program.
- You must drink at least 64 oz of water daily to help mobilize the fat in your system.
- Please advise your doctor of any medical conditions you have; these may impact your weight loss.
5 Steps of the HCG Protocol
- Visit a licensed physician
- Begin your 500 – calorie /day diet
- 20 minutes of light exercise every day
- Three days after the last injection, you can eat anything you want except starch and sugars for three weeks.
- Slowly add starch and sugars back into your normal diet.
Before You Start
You’ll need to planes before you start the HCG Protocol: from scheduling your diet preparations.
You will be on the first phase (500 calorie) for between 23 – 40 days, followed by three weeks of eating no starch or sugar, followed by three weeks of slowly adding starch and sugar back into your diet. It’s important that you check your calendar to plan for any conflicts ( i.e. a two week holiday at an all-inclusive resort) .
Secondly, you are going to need to plan your diet. You need to carefully look at the food you can eat, so that you are acutely aware of what is acceptable. For example, boneless, skinless chicken breast is ok, but boneless, skinless turkey breast is not. The nice thing about the diet is that all the food consumed is regular food that you can purchase at any grocery store. During this phase, you may want to purchase naturally or organically raised food (that does not contain growth hormones).
Step 1. The HCG 500- Calorie/Day Diet
In order for you to lose weight, it is critical that you take the HCG as prescribed, as well as follow this diet without any substitutions or additions. If you don’t, you will not lose, and may even gain unwanted pounds.
Breakfast. 8oz water
Tea or coffee in any quantity without sugar. Only one tablespoon
milk allowed in 24 hours. Stevia may be used.
Lunch: -16 oz of water before eating.
-100 grams of veal, extra lean beef, chicken breast, fresh white
fish, lobster, crab, or shrimp. All visible fat must be carefully
removed before cooking, and the meat must be weighed raw.
- It can be broiled, stir-fried, boiled or grilled without additional fat
( use of non- stick pans).
-One type of vegetable, to be chosen from the following:
spinach, chard, chicory, beet- greens, green salad, tomatoes,
celery, fennel, onions, red radishes, cucumbers, asparagus,
-One (Grissini) breadstick or one Melba toast.
-An apple, orange, or handful of strawberries or one-half
Dinner: The same four choices as lunch (above).
Please remember that the total daily intake must not exceed 500 calories if the best possible results are to be obtained, and that the daily ration should contain 200 grams of fat free protein and a very small amount of starch.
Just as the daily dose of HCG is the same in all cases so the same diet proves to be satisfactory in both men and women. Under the effect of HCG the obese body is always able to obtain all the calories it needs from the abnormal fat deposits, regardless of whether it uses up 1500 or 4000 calories per day.
The fruit or the breadstick may be eaten between meals instead of with lunch or dinner, but not more than four items listed for lunch or dinner may be eaten at one meal. Two small apples a not an acceptable exchange for one apple.
The diet used in conjunction with HCG must not exceed 500 calories per day, and the way these calories are made up is of the utmost importance. For instance, if you drop the apple and eat an extra breadstick you will not be consuming any more calories, but you will also not lose any weight, there are a number of foods, particularly fruits and vegetables, which have the same or even lower caloric values than those listed above, and yet we find that they interfere with the regular loss of weight under the HCG protocol, presumably owing to the nature of their composition ( I.e. high starch). Pimiento peepers, okra, artichokes and pears are examples of these.
Be careful any lean or regular beef. For red meat, you can eat extra lean beef or preferably veal. Try to limit red meat to 3-4 times or less per week.
The fish must also be lean, so avoid fish like herring, mackerel, tuna, salmon, ell, trout, sardines, etc., which all have a high fat content. Also avoid all canned, dried, smoked or pickled fish.
Where the Italian breadsticks (Grissini) is not available, one Melba toast may be used instead. A Melba toast has about the same weight as the very porous Grissini .
